Abstract

626,269. Heating water. GODDARD, H. G. Aug. 21, 1947, No. 23208. [Classes 64(i) and 64(iii)] In a domestic hot-water supply system, water in a tank 3 in series with a coldwater supply and a heating apparatus is pre-heated by hot waste water diverted into an insulated container 1 surrounding the tank by a thermostatically controlled valve 15 in a conduit 12, which receives hot water discharged by one or more waste pipes and communicates at 6 with the bottom of the container 1, the valve 15 discharging 'the waste water, when it has cooled to a pre-determined temperature, to the drainage system. When the valve 15 is closed, excess waste water can escape through the pipes 7, 8. When the water has been discharged from the container 1, the air which takes its place acts as an additional insulator for the tank 3.
