Class 64(i) In a water heater, the supply of cold water from an auxiliary tank R to a main hot-water storage tank W, having an external heat source and means for drawing off water, is controlled by a valve 1 which is normally maintained closed by a float 12 in the auxiliary tank R and is opened, when the water in the main tank W falls below a predetermined level, by a sinker 13 which is insufficient in weight when submerged to overcome the float 12, so that the water in the tank W is not cooled by incoming water until it has fallen below the predetermined level. The sinker 13 is a float connected to the valve 1 by a relatively slidable cage 15 and rod 11<SP>1</SP> with an adjustable nut 16. Upward movement of the sinker 13 is limited by the engagement of a rod 17 and nut with a plate 18. An overflow pipe may connect the float chamber 4 in the tank R to the valve chamber 8.
