666,220. Combustion chambers. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL. June 18, 1948 [June 21, 1947], No. 16425/48. Class 7(iii) A fuel injection nozzle 4, Fig. 1 is situated at the centre of ridge 5 on the piston, the surface 6 of which deflects the fuel towards a cavity 9, situated at a greater radius from the nozzle 4 than the ridge 5. across a stream of air forced from the space 10 when the piston approaches the cylinder head. The surfaces forming the space 10 may be perpendicular to the cylinder axis. In an opposed piston engine, Figs. 5 and 6, two fuel injectors 15 are arranged in the cylinder wall at the centre of an arcuate ridge 19 on each piston associated with an arcuate cavity 20 in the opposing piston, and inclined surfaces 22 form a slot 23 forcing air across the fuel jets reflected at the ridges 19 towards the cavities 20.
