Abstract

665,991. Liquid fuel burners. THORPE, A. E. June 18, 1949. [May 21, 1948; May 21, 1948] Nos. 13765/48 and 13766/48. Class 75(i). In a liquid fuel burner of the type having a perforated drum 14 supported on an annular trough 1 within which a wick 5 is located concentric rings 9, 10 separate and distinct from the trough are supported by the trough 1 to protect the wick 5 from overheating and to prevent flames travelling down into the trough. The rings 9, 10 may be perforated at 20, 21 and in addition, the trough 1, which may be of cuplikes form at its top, may have holes 16, 17 therein and may be provided with one or more vent pipes 25, Fig. 7, to provide coolant air around the trough 1 walls and additional combustion air. The holes 16, 17 may be covered with a fine mesh. The cross-section of the trough 1 may be as shown in Figs. 1 or 7, or of simple frustoconical form diverging from bottom to top as shown in Fig. 8.
