[Class 75 (i)] A stout shield or protector plate 20 having openings or slots 25 corresponding to the positions of the burner jets 17 secured in the top of a gas chamber 10 is attached by screws 23 to pillars 18 integral with the gas chamber so that a downwardly projecting peripheral flange 21 on the plate is spaced sufficiently from the gas chamber to allow free access of air to the burner jets. The slots 25 may radiate from a central opening 24. The plate 20 may be supported at points intermediate the pillars 18 by lugs 19 on the chamber.
