Abstract
724,808. Liquid-fuel burners. SOC. D'EQUIPEMENTS ET MATERIELS AUXILIAIRES POTEZ SOC. AR.L. March . 2, 1953 [June .23, 1952], No. 5782/53. Class 75 (1) In heating apparatus comprising a liquid-fuel burner having a combustion chamber A, B to the lower part A of which fuel is supplied by gravity through a constant level fuel regulator R, the combustion chamber is supported on a tray 1 forming the bottom of an outer body 27 surrounding the combustion chamber and defining therewith an annular space which is fluid tight except for one or more apertures 3- in the tray through which air enters and impinges vertically on the bottom 9 of the burner and then passes into the combustion chamber through apertures 18, 23, 24 in the side wall thereof, the lowermost apertures 18 being surrounded by a wall 12 in fluid-tight contact with the combustion chamber at a position below these apertures and the top 22 of the wall being at a higher level than the limit level H-H for which the fuel regulator is set. The air-flow through the apertures 3 in the tray is controlled by a rotatable disc 6 having apertures which can be brought into partial or complete register with the air apertures 3. The upper part B of the combustion chamber is of greater diameter than the lower part A so that the gasified fuel expands as it rises and mixes with the air entering the upper part B through the apertures 23, 24. The axes of the top row 24 of air apertures in the. combustion chamber are directed upwardly from outside to inside and the axes of the lowest row 18 of air apertures may be directed upwardly or downwardly from outside to inside. The upper end of the annular space between the outer body 27 and the combustion chamber is closed by a ring 25 peened over the upper edge of the combustion chamber. A collar C of refractory material rests on the upper end of the combustion chamber and keeps the flames away from the outer body 27.
