Abstract

665,902. Aircraft landing-gear. FAIRCHILD ENGINE & AIRPLANE CORPORATION. July 8. 1949 [July 8, 1948], No. 18168/49. Class 4. [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXII] The main frame 10, Fig. 1, of an endless track undercarriage unit is mounted on an aircraft by a main strut 42 and a shock absorbing strut 43 which latter positions the track for landing and retraction. The rear wheel 19 of the bogie (see Group XXXI) is eccentrically mounted at 50 on an arm 16 in order that application of the brake 57 will tighten the track 36. Fig. 7 illustrates a steerable nose gear, an endless track unit being mounted on an arm 61 rotatable about an axle 62 by a jack 65 and links 66. A shock absorber 60 replaces that shown at 43 in Fig. 1.
