Abstract
502,970. Aircraft landing - gear. DOWTY, G. H. Sept. 28, 1937, No. 26248. [Class 4] The rotational movements of twin castoring wheels or skids of tail or nose landing-gear of aircraft are maintained in relationship through 360‹ by a connection comprising a chain 24 passing over sprockets 23 rotary on the upper telescopic parts 10 secured to the aircraft. The lower telescopic parts 11, which carry the forks 12, transmit their rotary movements to the sprockets by toggle links 18, 20. The lengths of the chain run in two parallel guides 25 which are connected to the strut 14 by links 26 and are resiliently drawn towards one another by springs 28 to tighten the chain. The twinwheel unit may be retractable about the axis 16B. Specifications 431,042 and 480,598 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the chain may be used as a medium for braking or self-centring.
