821,874. Steering vehicles. SUDAVIATION SOC. NATIONAL DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Dec. 20, 1956 [Dec. 27, 1955; Feb. 8, 19561, No. 38910/56. Class 79(5) [Also in Groups XXXIII and XXXIV] Figs. 9 and 10 show a steerable aircraft nosewheel 21 journalled on an arm 23 having a vertical pivot 24 mounted in a bushing 25 in a horizontal axle 26. The latter is pivoted at 31, 32 to a plate-like member 33 pivoted to the aircraft at 34. A lug 30 on axle 26 is connected to the ram 39 of a jack 40. During ground engagement of the wheel, jack 40 is not operated and the axle 26 is thus held non- rotatable. A. bevel gear-27 formed on a pivot 24 meshes with a bevel gear sector 28 rotatably mounted on axle 26 and having a lug 29 connected to the ram 36 of the steering jack 37 pivoted to the aircraft at 38. Extension or contraction of the jack 37 rotates the gear sector 28 on axle 26. thus rotating the bevel gear 27 and steering the wheel. Specification 726, 573 [Group XXXIII] is referred to.
