Abstract

665,663. Reversible ploughs. RANSOMES, SIMS, & JEFFERIES, Ltd., BROWN, R.A. and WARREN, C. A. May 23, 1950. [May 23, 1949] No. 13715/49. Class 6(i). A tractor-mounted reversible plough, of the type having duplicate plough-bodies 1, 2 or discs mounted on a frame 4 rotatable about a longitudinal axis, is provided with a disccoulter 52 which is automatically moved laterally by the reversal of the frame 4 so that it always precedes the leading operative body or disc. The reversing frame 4 is mounted on a shaft 5 carried in bearings 17 on a main frame 18. The main frame is adjustably supported on the tractor lift-links 67 by means described in Specification 665,666. The reversing frame is locked in position by a spring- loaded bolt 19 engaging holes 21, 22 on adjustable plates carried by the frame 4. Reversal is effected by a lever 38 (Fig. 1) which rotates a quadrant 30: this quadrant meshes with a bevel wheel 26 free on the shaft 5 but driving it through a lostmotion connection 27 to a collar 29. The bevel wheel incorporates a cam-track 31 over which runs a roller 32 on a lever 34 embracing the bolt 19. The lostmotion connection 27 permits the bolt 19 to be withdrawn before rotation of the shaft 5 commences. The front end of the shaft 5 carries a cam 59 to which is adjustably secured an arm 58 pivoted to a collar 56 on the stalk 54 of a disc-coulter assembly including a coulter 52 swivelly mounted on a yoke 53 on the lower end of the stalk, 54, the upper end being cranked and pivoted at 55<SP>1</SP> to a standard 36 on the main frame. Rotation of the shaft 5 causes the stalk 54 to swing laterally about its pivot 55<SP>1</SP>. In a modification (Fig. 11), the stalk 54 is not cranked at its upper end but is keyed to a crank 61 rotatable on a pin 64. The lower end of the stalk is cranked slightly to permit reversal of the stalk for longitudinal adjustment of the coulter (to the dotted position). The plates 23 carrying the bolt slots 21 (Fig. 9), are adjustable around the shafts 5 by a screw device 50.
