678,862. Hedge-trimming machines. BAKER & HUNT, Ltd. May 21,1951 [May 24,1950], No. 13049/50. Class 6(ii) In hedge-trimming machines in which a wheeled frame 11, 12 supports a transverse arm 37 to which the cutter is attached, the height of the cutter is varied by a cable 53 passing over pulleys to a winch 54. A sleeve 44 on the arm 37 slides on a vertical post 28. The machine may be guided by a walking operator, or pivotally attached to the front of a tractor. A caster 15 then supports the front of the frame. An L-shaped auxiliary frame is mounted on the main frame and carries discs 24 on a vertical axle 23. The discs are spring-biassed to a position in which the cutter-arm, which is pivoted to the auxiliary frame, is at right-angles to the direction of machine movement. An internal combustion engine 26 is mounted on the arm of the L-frame, and thus projects in the opposite direction to the cutter arm. It transmits its drive through pulleys 34, 32 and a belt 33 to a shaft 31 which passes through the pedestal 30 and is universally connected to the cutter-driving shaft 36 rotating within the arm 37.
