Abstract
1,033,828. Lawn-edge trimmers. F. J. ARNOLD and G. H. ARNOLD. May 14, 1965 [March 17, 1964], No. 11162/64. Heading A1E. A trimmer for the edge of a lawn adjacent to a path or roadway comprises a wheeled chassis 1 carrying a horizonal transverse shaft 11, which indirectly supports a rotary disc-coulter 12 disposed beyond one side of the chassis, there being means for adjusting the working height of the coulter relative to the shaft, means for resiliently urging the coulter into groundengagement and further means for raising the coulter into an inoperative position and locking it there. The machine is mounted on ground-wheels 2 and may be propelled by a motor D; vertical rollers 8 are provided to engage the vertical lawnedge. The coulter is carried by a spindle 19 on an arm 18 carried by a cranked arm 16 which is angularly and vertically adjustable in a collar 15 carried by a lever 14 integral with the shaft 11, which passes tehrough a sleeve 13 freely rotatable in a bearing 10 on the chassis. The sleeve has an adjusting lever. 31, integral with it, carrying a detent 32 to engage slots in an arcuate member 33 on the chassis. The sleeve also carries an integral arm 26 connected by a tension spring 28 to an arm 27 secured to the coulter-supporting shaft 11. Swinging the lever 31 to the left resiliently forces the coulter 12 into its lowered position, through the arms 26, 27 and tension spring 28. Lever-movement to the right causes the coulter to be raised, through a stud 29 on the arm 26 encountering the arm 27 and forcing it anticlockwise together with the shaft 11.
