657,414. Agricultural implement. DENTON, M. G. Jan. 6, 1948, No. 434. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1946. [Class 6(i)] A machine for cutting stalks and working the ground comprises a unit having a drum 7, 8 preferably hollow and partially filled with water, mounted on an axle fitted on bearings on a frame 11 and provided with blades 10. The drum is positioned so that the lower face of the blade in contact with the ground is parallel thereto. The frame 11 has towing means 3 arranged to produce a line of draft different from that to which the axle would tend to move when turned and supported on the blades so that a portion of any blade entering the ground at any moment during operation will have a relative motion with respect to the ground. As shown the series of blades are mounted at an angle and define a truncated cone. In modifications the blades may be helically disposed with respect to the axle and the series of blades may define a cylinder. The axis of each drum may be at right angles to the line of draft and the axles of the drums may be parallel or set at an angle to each other.
