663,110. Oil seals. GARLOCK PACKING CO. May 11, 1949 [Aug. 4, 1948], No. 12605/49. Class 122(v) In an oil seal of the type comprising a flexible sealing member housed in a casing, the flexible sealing member has a radially extending annular portion which is substantially rigid and spaced from the inner periphery of the casing by an axially extending portion of the flexible member. The flexible member 22 is bonded to a rigid metal or other ring 20 and secured in a cupshaped casing 12 by a flanged portion 19 of the casing and a filler ring 18. A portion 21a of the member 22 overlays the ring 20 and forms a seal with the inner periphery of the casing 12. During manufacture the diameter of the portion 21a may be made oversize and trimmed to fit the casing 12 in order that moulded members 22 may be fitted to casings 12 of various diameters.
