Abstract

1,042,508. Oil seals. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. June 27, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 25841/62. Heading F2B. A rubber oil seal having a sealing lip 2 is reinforced by an L-section metal or other rigid ring which is embedded in the seal and has an axial flange 8 and a substantially radial flange 7 which is axially inclined so that it forms an acute included angle with the axial flange 8. The seal may be an internal one, as shown in Fig. 1, with the sealing lip on the inner periphery or an external one, Fig. 4 (not shown), with the lip on the outer periphery and the lip may be urged inwardly or outwardly respectively against the surface to be sealed by a garter spring 4.
