Abstract
662,892. Draught excluders. SODEN, W. C. Nov. 19, 1949 [May 24, 1949], No. 13776/49. Class 20(iii) A draught excluder for doors &c. comprises a bar or flap which has a sealing strip thereon and is pivotally mounted on the door &c. and spring pressed into a raised position with a striker 12 adapted to move against the door frame when the door is closed to pivot the bar downwardly, the bar being formed in two parts 1, 2 which slidably engage in each end of a coupling sleeve or member 3 to connect said parts in alignment at adjustable distances apart, each part 1, 2 and the coupling sleeve 3 being each provided with a flexible strip 11, 7 for bearing on the floor. As shown the metal member 3 is of U- section with one limb 4 straight and the other limb 5 stepped inwardly to form a shoulder 6 which supports the bars 1, 2. The rubber sealing strip 7 is attached to the sleeve 3 by means of projections 8 engaging in perforations 9 in the sleeve. The rubber strips 11 fit in grooves in the bars 1, 2 and at the inner ends overlap the strip 7 and bear against a portion 5a of the limb 5. A striker 12 comprising a U-section metal strip with one limb having an extension 13a on each side and one or other of the limbs inturned at the lower end is slidably engaged on either end of the bar. A striker plate is let into the door frame. A spring is incorporated in each hinge 14.
