Abstract

660,657. Valve closure members. STERLING INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 16, 1949 [July 8, 1948] No. 18424/48. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] Sealing rings A, B and C, e.g. of natural or synthetic rubber or synthetic plastic material, are mounted in recesses formed in the internal corner angles of parts of an apparatus so as to present convex surfaces which seal against external corners of relatively movable parts. As shown, the rings are mounted in a pipe coupling comprising parts 5a, 6. The part 5a carries a spring-loaded closure member 4, the corner 7 of which engages the ring B when the parts are uncoupled. The part 6 has a spring-loaded closure member 11 carrying the ring C which engages a convex corner 14 when the parts are uncoupled, and the ring A is mounted in the member 4 to engage a corner 5 on the part 6 when the parts are coupled.
