Abstract

1,027,009. Pipe joints. TECALEMIT (ENGINEERING) Ltd. Dec. 18, 1962 [Dec. 19, 1961], No. 47741/62. Heading F2G. A sealing member 8 of a synthetic plastics material has male tapered surfaces 9, 10 respectively engaged by female tapered surfaces 5, 11 of a coupling body 1 and a nut 7 screwed thereon. The member is forced along the pipe 4 and compressed to form a seal between the pipe and surface 5; the angle of the surface 9 with respect to the axis of the coupling is smaller than that of the surface 5. The nut may be replaced by a flanged member bolted to the body. A preferred material for the sealing member 8 is a polyamide or, for high temperature, polytetrafluoroethylene or polychlorofluoroethylene. The angle subtended by the frusto-conical surface 5 is preferably in the range 10-30 degrees. The taper of the sealing surface 9 is preferably up to 5 degrees less than the angle of the surface 5. The angle of the surface 11 with respect to the axis of the coupling is greater than that of the surface 10.
