Abstract

660,294. Pumps. WERKSPOOR N. V. Dec. 30, 1948 [Dec. 31, 1947], No. 33533/48. Class 7(ii) In a two-stroke engine having uniflow scavenging, inlet ports 38 uncovered by the piston, and outlet ports in the cylinder head. an air chamber 37 communicates with the ports 38, a positive-displacement air pump 41 is in open communication with the chamber 37, a blower 31 driven by an exhaust turbine 30 communicates with the chamber 37 through a non-return valve 40, and a byepass is 'provided whereby the working space of the pump may be placed in free communication with the chamber 37 so as to cut out the pump when the air supply from. the blower 31 is sufficient. The pump, as shown in Fig. 4, is double acting and has inlet and delivery valves 50, 51 and 56, 57 respectively. Sleeve valves 61, .62 adapted to byepass the delivery valves, are adjustably spring-loaded. The pressure in the chamber 37 acts on one side of each sleeve valve and atmospheric pressure admitted into a space 66 or 67 acts. on the other. Specification 586,024, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
