Abstract

660,119. Spray-producers. BROSTROM, O. (Brostrom, F. W.). Jan. 31, 1949. [Jan. 29, 1948.] 2714/48. Class 69 (iii). An irrigating device comprises a spraying element 3, having closely spaced and relatively widely divergent apertures 7, which oscillates about a shaft 2 carried on the forked end of a standard 1. The'element 3, having a water inlet 4, is driven by a double-acting piston 15 which is connected by a piston rod 12, comprising coaxially disposed tubes 17, 18, to a valve housing 11. A rod 9, adjustably secured against the shaft 2, is connected to the valve housing. The annuler space between tubes 17 and 18 is connected by an aperture 19 to the space above the piston, and the lower end of the inner tube to the space below. Valve housing 11 has a water inlet 26 fed from a flexible hose 28, and an outlet 250 connected by a flexible tube 251 to an outlet nipple 252. An oscillating plug 23 within housing 11 allows the supply of water alternately to the upper and lower spaces of the cylinder 14, the water in the space below the piston being exhausted through the outlet nipple 252 when the space above the piston is being supplied and vice-versa. The plug 23, secured to an arm 30, is rapidly moved from one position to the other when the piston reaches the end of its stroke, by projections 33 on a lever 34 pivoted on housing 11 at 35, and operated by two stops 36 on a fixed rod 37. The angle through which the element 3 is swung is varied by adjusting the lower stop 36, and its angle to the vertical at the start of a stroke adjusted by adjusting the rod 9 about the shaft 2.
