Abstract

659,600. Gear pumps. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Aug. 18, 1949, No. 21513. [Class 110(ii)] In a gear pump with pressure fluid admitted to a chamber 20 at one end, to press floating bushes 17 against the sides of the gears 7, 8, one portion 26 of the chamber 20 near the inlet 4 is excluded from the delivery pressure and open to the suc. tion side. The object is to bring the centres of pressure, inside and outside the bushes 17, approximately in line to prevent uneven rubbing of the bushes. A flexible ring 24 seals off the portion 26. Alternatively the ring may surround and seal off the pressure chamber 20 and may be metal reinforced. Ducts 21, 22 are open to the delivery and suction sides, respectively, of the pump. Spaces 36 ... 39 are relieved of pressure and open to the suction side by way of ducts 40, 41. Sealing rings 35 are provided to prevent leakage from the chamber 20.
