Abstract

659,426. Stud-and-socket fastenings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 4, 1949, No. 3132. [Class 44] A stud and socket fastening, particularly adapted for securing trays of radio equipment in a rack or the like, comprises a member 1, Fig. 1, having a bore 4, 5, and a spring-loaded bolt or bolts 6, 7, with hemispherical ends projecting into the bore, and a second member, Fig. 2, adapted to enter the bore in member 1 and provided with an aperture 19 in which the bolts 6, 7 are received, and with means, e.g. a spring-loaded plunger 24, for moving the bolts until only their hemispherical ends engage in the aperture 19 so that the parts may then be separated by a force sufficient to overcome the spring-loading of the bolts. The pin or plug member, Fig. 2, comprises two cylindrical pistons having diameters equal respectively to those of the parts 4 and 5 of the bore in member 1, the portion 17 being of the same diameter as the part 4 of the socket, and having fiats on each side extending over the length A. The bore 19 extends between and perpendicular to the flats. Housed within an axial bore 25. 26 in the pin is a spring-pressed plunger 24 having a wedge-shaped point 30, and a thumb-piece 29, by means of which it may be pressed in so that the point 30 cams the bolts 6, 7 outwardly.
