Abstract

597,563. Spring link units. CLERK, R. C. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22779. [Class 108 (iii)] An extendible spring link, Fig. 1, includes a helical spring 12 and two terminations 11a, each comprising a head 10 and a pair of resilient prongs 11, each terminating in a point 13 having an outwardly directed barb and so spaced apart before assembly that the prongs can be inserted in one end of the spring by axial force, the barbs being adapted to slide along the inside of the spring and to hook on to the end turn at - the other end, the prongs of each of the terminations lying respectively in two planes at right angles which contain the axis of the spring. The terminations may have abutments 14 which enable the spring 12 to be pre-loaded and also enable the link to work in compression. The head 10 may be in the form of a hook, eye, lateral projection or any other connecting element. In the construction shown in Figs. 6, 7 two parts 21 (one only, shown) which are to be urged resiliently together have registering holes 19 respectively, within which the link is accommodated. Lateral projections 17<1> on each head 10 engage lateral slots 18 at the outer end of the respective hole 19. Two tubular slotted tools are used to assemble and dismantle the spring respectively while it is located within the holes 19.
