[Class 38 (i)] In a plug-and-socket coupling, the tubular socket a has a spring wire locking member f secured in a recess in the open end thereof and comprising a central loop g and two ears h, the loop being spread by the initial insertion of a plug pin b into the socket to cause the ears to project from slots i in the wall of the latter until the loop engages an annular groove w in the pin when the latter has been completely inserted, whereupon the ears retract thereby allowing an insulating sleeve m on the plug to slide over the slots i under the influence of a spring t. Lateral movement of the locking member and hence withdrawal of the plug is thus prevented until the sleeve m is retracted to uncover the slots i. The sleeve has limiting sliding movement between a washer v on the plug pin and a hexagonal metal bush l which it encloses and through which the plug pin is slid, the looped end p of the pin being held captive against one enlarged end of the bore of the bush by an insulating cap q screwed on to the threaded exterior of the said end of the bush. The cap q also clamps a lead wire in the looped end of the plug pin.
