Abstract

632,815. Two-part couplings. HEISS, H. April 11, 1947, No. 9748. Convention date, Jan. 20. [Class 38 (i)] In a multi-connection plug and jack device, each identical plug and socket coupling comprises a resilient socket in the form of a metal tube 11 containing a resilient contact member, Fig. 4 (not shown) preferably U-shaped and of aluminium-bronze, having arcuate arms 21, 22 which are deflected by a plug 13, and in at least one tube 11 the resilient contact member is replaced by an index or key member, preferably a screw 34, to prevent misconnection. The tube is then surrounded by a sleeve 36 and is secured to a mounting 42 by the screw 34. Each socket which is open at 15 is provided with a shallow crimp 17 in which the ends of the arms rest, and is riveted over at 18 to secure it on its mounting 12. The plug is similar to the socket but smaller, and is wide enough to engage the arms 21, 22. The device may also be formed as a multi-pin plug-and-socket connector (Fig. 8, not shown). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a device in which the resilient member may have three arms, each provided with a pin which slides through an aperture in the tube, the arms meeting at the tube centre-line; or the tube may be turned in at the end 15 and the base 20 of the resilient member secured to it. The resilient member may be replaced by flat leaf-springs, the ends of which engage depressions in the tube. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
