[Class 44] A bolt for connecting together two members, e.g. of channel section, as shown in Fig. 6, comprises a shank 3 carrying a radial projection 5. The members 1, 2 are formed with registering holes through which the bolt passes and the inner one 2 carries a stop 11. The projection 5 has sloping surfaces 6, the lower of which rests on the stop 11 when the bolt is inserted. Rotation of the bolt in a clockwise direction causes the projection to abut the stop 11 and to engage the inside surfaces of the inner member to prevent axial movement of the bolt (Fig. 4). The sharp comers 7 of the projection may be adapted to'dig into the metal of the inner member to prevent unintentional rotation. The hemispherical stop may be replaced by a stop with a sloping upper surface. In other forms the projection is provided with a resilient member frictionally to engage a surface of the inner member to retain the bolt in the locking position. A spring received in a bore in the projection may engage the upper surface of the inner member on a cylindrical surface formed on the inner member concentric with the shank 3. The spring may be replaced by a plate of rubber or the whole projection may be of rubber bonded to the shank and adapted to engage the upper and lower surfaces of the inside member. In the form of Fig. 29, the shank 61 carries projections 62 at the upper end and is slotted at the lower end to receive a spring-loaded catch plate 66 engaging in a notch 68 to retain the bolt in the locking position. In another form, Fig. 11, for securing together structural parts 21, 25 the bolt has two projections 30 and passes through a slot 44 in the member 21. A collar 32 is arranged to engage under opposite strips 42 on the member 21 to retain the bolt against axial movement in the position where the projections 30 are aligned with the hole 45. In this position the bolt is prevented from turning by the resilient engagement of the walls 39 of the member 21 with flats 35 of a cam-piece 33 on the bolt. When all the bolts have been mounted on the member 21, the member 25 is fitted, the projections 30 passing through holes 45 and the shank ends 31 being received in holes 46. The bolts are then turned counter-clockwise through 90 degrees to secure the members together. The bolt is retained in the locking position by the resilient engagement of the walls 39 with the flats 66. In the last turning movement the walls 39 spread to pass the rounded comers 47 of the cam 33 but will not pass the corners 48 which therefore act as stops limiting the rotation of the bolt. The bolt may only be provided with one projection and there may be only one set of cam surfaces 35, 36, 37 on the cam 33.
