Abstract

634,926. Plate clamps. NUNN, R. STEWART-. Sept. 16, 1946, No. 27671. [Class 44] A device for securing together flat sheets comprises a cylindrical shell 1 with a flange 7 at the open end, within which is a disc 4 with an upstanding flange 3d, conically bevelled on its inside edge and urged towards the open end of the shell by a spring or springs, and two members 3 shaped to mate with the bevel of disc 4 and having claws 3c adapted to project through slots 1b in the shell when the two members are forced apart by rotation of a flattened cam 2b member having a stem 2 engaging in an aperture in the disc 4 and a head provided with a screwdriver slot or a ring to enable it to be turned. As the cam is turned to the position in which the claws are fully projected, a spring washer 6 between the claw members and the head of the cam causes a square flange 2c thereon to snap into rectangular recesses in the claw members so as to lock the cam against rotation until it is released by pushing in. In modified forms, the cam is held locked by springs of flat strip bent to D-shape, the flat parts bearing on the flats of the cam, or by engagement of the rounded ends of the cam section in grooves 2e, Fig. IV, in the claw members. In a further modification, Fig. V, the square flange 2g on the cam rod and the co-operating recesses 3f on the claw members are arranged so that the cam rod is released by a pull on the ring 10.
