Abstract

652,513. Quick release fastenings. AEROLEX, Ltd., and HARLEY, F. B. Oct. 29, 1948, Nos. 28185/48 and 649/49. [Class 44] A quick release fastening, e.g. for a parachute harness comprises a tongue member 1 and a sleeve member 2 (shown in section in Fig. 4), having a pin 11 adapted to engage in a hole 3 in the tongue to lock the parts together. The pin is chamfered at 13 and adapted to be rotated against a spring 14 to present the chamfered side against the direction of pull of the tongue, the pin being then automatically lifted against the spring 14 to release the tongue. The tongue is rotated by a knob 16 secured to the outer end. Means may be provided positively to lift the pin as the knob is turned, e.g. a depending flange from the knob may be formed with an abutment on the sleeve body. Alternatively as in Fig. 5 pins 22 on the rotating part may engage in cam slots 23 on the fixed part so that the pin rises as it turns. There may be provided some lost motion between the pin and the knob so that the pin may rise as the tongue is inserted without moving the operating knob. The invention may also be applied to secure a sliding seat, the pin engaging openings in one of the slide rails.
