Abstract
591,641. Strap fastenings. MILLS EQUIPMENT CO., Ltd., LETHERN, A. A., and QUIRICO, J. S. May 15, 1945, No. 12181. Addition to 524,504. [Class 44] In the quick-release fastening for parachute or safety harness described in the parent Specification, a locking device is provided having a control member operable from outside the casing and adapted in its locked position to hold the pivoted operating lever positively in its locking position. The control member may comprise a knob mounted coaxially with the pivoted operating lever and movable outwardly to lock and inwardly to unlock. The fastening comprises a body part A with cylindrical recesses A<1>, A<2>, and end plates B, C. Slots are formed in the body to receive the ends of the straps D which are retained by spring- pressed plungers G. The plungers are lifted to release the straps by the movement of a releasing plate H engaging flanges G<1> on the plungers. The plate M has a cylindrical extension L within which is journalled a shaft J, and a flange J<1> on the shaft has a cam surface which co-operates with a corresponding surface on the extension L, when the shaft is rotated by means of the lever K, to raise the plate Hand consequently the plungers G. The locking device consists of a key M, secured to a rod M<2> passing through a bore in the shaft J, which in the locking position lies partly in a diametral slot J<3> in the shaft, and partly in a slot B<1> in a boss integral with or secured to the back plate B. The key M has chamfered ends which coact with a spring clip B' to retain it either in this position or in a position wholly within the slot B<1> to release the shaft J, movement of the key being effected by manipulating the knob M<3>. Cam means, such as balls K<1> and a V- groove M<4> may be provided so that a slight rocking movement of the lever K effects sufficient outward movement of the knob M<3> to lock the shaft J.
