[Also in Division A3] A take-up device for a safety belt comprises a U-shaped member 21 to be mounted on the vehicle, having a rotatably mounted shaft 23 from which a strap 15 of the safety belt may be unwound against the bias of a spiral spring 27. A second U-shaped member 29 having keyhole slots 38 which may lock or release the tenoned ends 39 of shaft 23 is urged into the locking position by springs 31. The shaft 23 is released for rotation in the wide parts of slots 38 when a manually operable knob or pedal 37 (Fig. 1, not shown) is used to actuate a Bowden cable 34, 35 which retracts the member 29 against the force of springs 37, movement being limited by bent-out lugs 30.
