Abstract

939,112. Buckles. R. H. SVENSSON. April 17, 1962 [April 17, 1961], No. 14770/62. Class 43. [Also in Group XXV] A safety belt buckle has a base portion 10 for securing one belt part 16, a flap 24, a spring member 28 actuating the flap, an internal locking member 32, and second spring member 34 actuating the locking member, a portion of the locking member being formed to clamp the other belt part 38 against the base, the locking member being adapted upon release to be pivoted out of locking position by the flap, the flap covering the locking member being mounted adjacent one end in the base portion on the same axis, a pin 20, as the locking member and formed to co-operate at this end with a shoulder 46 formed on the locking member to limit the freedom of movement of the locking member by rotating this member with the flap. The channel-shaped base portion 10 has a slot at one end for securing one part 16 of the belt, and may have a protuberance 40 against which the other part 38 of the belt is clamped by the serrated portion 36 of the locking member 32 pivoting on the cross-pin 20 extending between flanges 12. The spring members 28, 34 are coiled on the pin 20, one end of both springs engages in a groove 44 in the pin and the other ends engage the flap and locking member respectively. The locking member has a recess 42 for inserting the springs during assembly and which may be closed afterwards. The locking member has a tongue 48 which limits rotation during excessive stress on the belt part 38 by pressing the belt against the base member, preventing release of the belt from the buckle. In a modification, Fig. 6, the springs are joined, one end 54 engages an abutment 56 on the flap and the other end 58 contacts the locking member. An intermediate part 60 is secured in a groove 44 in the pin 20.
