Abstract
1,202,846. Safety belt buckle. G. E. Y. HOLMBERC. 19 Feb., 1969 [13 March, 1968; 27 Sept., 1968], No.9073/69. Heading E2A. A releasable fastening for anchoring a safety belt strap loop comprises a frame 10, for securing to a car body, a bar 18 pivoted at 19 thereto, and a latching member 20 for securing the bar in a position in which the bar and frame defines a slot, enclosed on all sides, for receiving the strap, a spring means 25 being provided secured to the bar and to the latching member to bias the bar to a position where the slot is open to release the belt and the member 20 to a latching position. The member 20 is pivoted within the frame 10 which may be of laminated construction and encloses the spring means 25 which, may be a single tension spring as shown or a double spring attached to a central rivet, in which case the spring or its part attached to the bar may act as a compression spring when the bar 18 is moved away from the frame beyond the position shown in dotted lines. The bar may be of a U-shape or both frame and bar may be L-shaped. The body of the frame may be coloured. The width of the slot between the bar and the frame is at least equal to the strap thickness, but less than twice that thickness, to prevent latching if a double fold of the belt has been laid beneath the bar.
