Abstract

1,010,272. Safety harness. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. April 3, 1962 [April 13, 1961], No. 13362/61. Heading A3V. A vehicle safety harness, particularly for children, comprises anchor straps 12 and 13 mounted at strong points 10 and 11 on the vehicle or seat and passing tightly over the back rest of the seat. Both straps are threaded through one slot of a buckle 16 where they cross at about mid-shoulder height of the user and a harness strap 8 is threaded through the other slot. The strap 8 is also secured to the straps 12 and 13 respectively fixedly or adjustably (as shown) by means of two part friction buckles 14, the strap 8 passing through a slot 15 in one buckle part which is threaded on a loop of the strap 12 or 13 projecting above the other buckle part. At its ends the strap 8 carries a quick release buckle 9. Running engagement of the strap 8 at least with the buckle 16 allows the wearer to turn one shoulder forward. The lap portion of the harness may instead of being integral with the strap 8 as shown be a separate strap or straps secured to the buckles 14. The straps 12 and 13 may pass through slots 18 in a cushion 17 and a crutch strap (not shown) may be attached at one end to the cushion or strap 12 and/or 13 and at the other end to the strap 8.
