Abstract

1,268,761. Safety harnesses. IRVIN GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. 25 April, 1969 [25 Jan., 1968], No. 3967/68. Heading A3V. A child's safety harness for use in a vehicle, comprises a lap belt 11 and shoulder straps 12, 13, the lap belt having portions 14, 15 connected by a buckle 16 and the shoulder straps being connected to respective lap belt portions and at their opposite ends to a single seat-retaining strap 19, the ends 28 of the lap belt including means for attachment to respective anchorage points 30 on the vehicle and the strap 19 including means for connection to the anchorage points 30 and to a further anchorage point 26. The strap 19 is made up of two portions 21, 22 connected by a sliding bar snubber 23, Fig. 2 (not shown), for length adjustment, and has a running connection with a strap 31 having looped ends 28 connected to the anchorage points 30; the strap 19 is stitched to the upper ends of the shoulder straps 12, 13. The lengths of the shoulder straps 14, 15 are adjustable by means of an adjuster 17, Fig. 3 (not shown). The buckle 16 may be of the type in which a part (33), Fig. 4 (not shown), is insertable into an apertured part (32) bent over and fastened by means of press studs (35), (36). The lap belt is length adjustable by means of a sliding bar snubber attached to the apertured part of the buckle 16. When used in combination with a child's seat 38, Fig. 5, the strap 19 passes through slots in the seat backrest and over the backrest to hold it firmly against the vehicle seat. The portions 14, 15 of the lap belt and the strap 31 are preferably formed from one length of webbing.
