Abstract
1,107,540. Safety harness. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. 14 Oct., 1966 [19 Oct., 1965], No. 44247/65. Heading A3V. [Also in Division E2] The diagonal strap 3 and lap strap 2 of a vehicle safety harness are both secured to one part of a two part buckle or coupling 4 and each strap is independently adjustable to vary its length. Preferably both straps are looped about a bar 8 on one buckle part 6 which is slidable when there is tension in the portion of a strap between the buckle and an anchorage 9 or 10 on the vehicle seat or body to trap the straps against an abutment which may be on the same buckle part or at (7), Fig. 2 not shown, on the other buckle part 5. The diagonal strap is preferably narrower than the lap strap and lies on top of the lap strap where the straps are looped round the bar. The free ends of each strap are joined to each other or turned over and stitched back on themselves to form enlargements 11 to stop the ends passing through the buckle. When the slidable bar is on a buckle part insertable in another buckle part which includes the abutment, a magnetic or mechanical fastening for the buckle parts may be provided.
