Abstract

1287272 Buckles WINGARD Ltd 4 March 1970 [11 July 1969] 34982/69 Headings E2A and E2B A two-part buckle for a safety seat belt for vehicles has a first part 10 to which lap and diagonal straps are connected in use which comprises a flat shank 12 having a step 14 in at least one side edge behind a tapered or rounded nose 13, and a second part comprising a frame incorporating two parallel walls 15 between which the shank enters and a spring-loaded latch member which is free to rock in the frame and which has a flat strut portion 21 working in transversely aligned openings 17 which are formed in the walls of the frame and are offset from the centre line of the frame, the strut portion being adapted to engage between the upper ends of the openings in the frame and the step in the shank of the first part of the buckle when that is inserted into the frame, and the latch member being rockable manually to disengage the strut portion from the step in the shank of the first part and to allow that part to be withdrawn from the second part. In the construction shown the latch member includes a sheet metal part having two parallel limbs 18 which freely embrace the frame and an end part 19 extends downwardly to form a finger piece. The frame is attached to a stalk 26 which in use is anchored to a load carrying part of the vehicle and the frame is enclosed in a housing 27 having an opening 29 in one side through which the finger piece is accessible.
