Abstract

1,242,150. Seat belts. WINGARD Ltd. 13 Feb., 1970 [20 March, 1969], No. 14577/69. Heading A3V. [Also in Divisions E1 and E2] A seat belt for a vehicle incorporates a buckle with a first part engageable to a second part, wherin the second part is suspended from the floor or other convenient part of the vehicle by a stiff but flexible cable 10. The first part of the buckle, to which lap and diagonal straps are connected, has a direct readily releasable engagement with the second part. The cable is a stranded steel cable with a core (12) of non-resilient, soft wire and can hold the second part of the buckle in any desired position. Ferrules 14, 18 are secured to the ends of the cable for connections respectively to the second part of the buckle and to a floor anchorage. The buckle may be of any convenient type and the flattened parts 15 of the ferrules may be aligned with the axes of the sleeve parts or may be cranked through any convenient angle (Fig. 3).
