Abstract

1370053 Vehicle safety harness SOC ANON AUTOMOBILES CITROEN 25 Feb 1972 [4 March 1971] 8908/72 Heading A3V A motor vehcile includes a safety harness for an occupant thereof, the harness comprising a pair of straps 10. 11 to retain the occupant on his seat, each strap being attached at one end to a bracket 16 on the vehicle roof 15 at a point to the rear of the occupant, and at the other end to a lap belt 21 secured to the vehicle floor on either side of the seat, the straps 10, 11 engaging the trunk and shoulders of the occupant when in use and converging upwardly towards the bracket 16, the convergent straps supporting a head rest 1, e.g. of rubber, the volume of which substantially fills the space between the straps and the occupants head. The straps 10, 11 are preferably formed from a single strap which passes through a ring 13 being an integral hook 14 for attachment to the vehicle roof. The head rest 1 is provided with sleeves 8, 9 for receiving the straps 10, 11 and is formed with grooves 5, 6, 7 to impart flexibility thereto. The lapbelt 21 is provided with an adjustment buckle 26 and may also carry a shaped protection shield (not shown) to complement the protection afforded by the lap belt.
