Abstract

1314645 Vehicle safety belts SOC ANON AUTOMOBILES CITROEN 2 Aug 1971 [2 Sept 1970] 36207/71 Heading A3V A vehicle safety harness of the lap and diagonal belt type comprises a single strap having elements 4a and 6a, a further strap 9, the straps being anchored to the vehicle bodywork 3 at anchorage points 5, 7 and 10, a buckle 8 connecting the two elements 4a and 6a to the strap 9, and a sleeve 12 which envelops the parts of the elements 4a and 6a adjacent the buckle as shown, one end of the sleeve abutting the buckle, such that in use the sleeve maintains the diagonal belt at a position 11a away from the wearer's neck in order to prevent displacement of the belt and consequent injury to the wearer's neck in an accident. The sleeve may be made of a deformable material which may be resilient, e.g. rubber, plastics, leather or fabric, such that stress on the belt elements 4a and 6a causes deformation of the sleeve 12 thus absorbing energy and decreasing the effects on the wearer of the forces on the belt.
