Abstract
1,060,066. Buckles. S. M. LINDBLAD. Sept. 2, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962], No. 34532/63. Heading E2A. A safety belt buckle comprises a first buckle member 1 and a channel-shaped second buckle member 3 the first buckle member having a flat plate-like portion which is slidable into the second buckle member so as to be received between the side walls of the channel-shaped member with a projection 19 on the flat plate-like portion of the first buckle member or on the bottom of the second buckle member extending into an opening 11 in the bottom of the second buckle member or in the flat plate-like portion respectively, a latching member 13 located between the side wall of the second buckle member and connected to each side wall by a connection which permits both sliding and pivoting movement of the latching member relatively to the second buckle member, a spring 16 coupled to the second buckle member and to the latching member and biasing the latching member into a latching position, the flat plate-like portion of the first buckle member being received between the latching member and the bottom of the second buckle member when the latching member is in latching position, the latching member having a latch portion 21 extending towards the bottom of the second buckle member and adapted in the latching position to prevent movement of the first buckle member in the sense to draw the projection out of the opening and the latching member being alternatively displaceable from its latching position by being pivoted away from the bottom of the second buckle member or by being slid parallel to the bottom of the second buckle member, both dsplacements being against the force of the spring and each manner of displacement moving the latch portion from the latching position to permit the projection to be drawn out of the opening and the buckle members to be separated. As shown the projection 19 is so inclined that when the latching member has been displaced from the latching position a force applied to the first buckle member will cause the inclined projection to slide out of the opening. The first buckle member has an opening to receive a strap end portion 6 and a crosspiece 5 slidably mounted above the opening and around which the strap end portion 6 is passed. The buckle member 2 has a second opening 12 in its bottom and a strap end portion is passed through the openings 11 and 12. The projection 19 is divided into two parts by a central recess a projection 17 from the bottom of the channel shaped member passing between the two parts of the projection 19 to be engaged by one end of the spring 16. To permit sliding movement of the latching member. The side walls of the member 2 are provided with slots 15 which receive pivot pins 14 extending from each side of the latching member. As an alternative to the pins 14 a shaft can extend through the latching member.
