[Also in Divisions A3 and E2] A releasable fastening comprises a bcdy, a latch 16 pivotally mounted on the body, and spring means 18 acting between the body and the latch urging the latch away from a first position towards a second position, the body having a hook portion 22 defining a recess facing in one direction, the latch having a hook portion 24 defining a recess facing, when the latch is in the second position, in a direction substantially opposite to said one direction, the recess combining in said second position of the latch to form a bounded opening 25 and the latch also having a projection 35 which upon movement of the latch from the second to the first position, passes over the recess in the body from the closed end thereof to the open end thereof, the arrangement being such that for attaching the fastening to a member 7 having a portion 23 which can engage in the opening, the latch is moved from the second to the first position against the action of the spring means enabling the portion 23 to be positioned between the recesses with the projection between the portion 23 and the recess in the body and the latch is then released whereby the spring means turns the latch to bring the recesses together to form the opening which encloses the portion 23, and the arrangement being such that for releasing the portion 23 the latch is rotated from the second position to the first position, during which movement the projection forces the portion 23 out of the recess of the body. The body comprises two plates fastened together by means of rivets, the plates being shaped to form the hook portion 22 at one end. The latch 16 is mounted between the plates on a pivot pin 17 and the spring means 18 which biases the latch to the fastening position is a leaf spring. The projection 35 is arranged opposite the hook portion 24 and in addition to ejecting the portion 23 from the hook portion 22 it also, so long as the latch is in the unfastening position, blocks the recess of the hook portion. The two plates 12, 13 are provided with apertures and the latch has a smaller aperture to enable it to be moved to the unfastening position. The curvature of the hook portion 24 of the latch and its relation to the pivot pin 17 is such that forces acting between the fastening and the member 7 do not tend to move the latch to its unfastening position. The plates 12, 13 are provided with aligned elongated apertures 42 through which a belt is passed; a curved plate 44 also passes through the apertures and engages the belt. The plate 44 has a tongue 47 by which the fastener can be attached to a vehicle when the belt is not in use. The member 7 which is engaged by the fastening is attachable to the floor of the vehicle so that it can pivot by means of a member 11 and nuts and bolts.
