A releasable fastening for straps comprises a catch part 10 and a tongue part 11, the catch part including a body having an abutment and a catch 30 having a shoulder and mounted pivotally on the body for movement between an engaging position in which the shoulder is adjacent to the abutment and a releasing position in which the shoulder is spaced from the abutment, the atch and the body being formed with opposed seats 34, 24 and the tongue part 11 having a shoulder 51 arranged to be inserted into the catch part through a mouth 23 and to engage the shoulder 39 when the catch is in its engaging position, the arrangement being such that, when the parts are subjected to a separating force by pulling in opposite directions, the shoulder 51 engages the catch shoulder 39 and prevents the catch from assuming its releasing position and the opposed co-operating seats are caused to abut to resist the separating force. The catch part is provided with spring- loaded hinge pins. The end 12 of the strap is passed round a rectangular bar 20 movable along a slot 19 and through a slot in the base of the body the end being clamped along a serrated edge 22 in this slot. In a modification as shown in Fig. 4. the springs are omitted and coincident slots 74, 75 and 65, 66 provided in the tongue and body member engageable by the lugs 70.
