Abstract
1,267,819. Latches. JIM ROBBINS SEAT BELT CO. 2 April, 1969 [15 April, 1968], No. 17136/69. Heading E2A. A seat belt buckle comprises a housing with an opening for a tongue 26 which has an aperture 39 in which an abutment 54 projecting from base 44 of the housing engages when the tongue is in the fastening position, the tongue being retained by the forward parts of a spring-urged sliding holding-down member 84, the tongue being released by pressing a push button 66 which has a slidable plate 122 with parallel links 114, 116 supporting it on lateral parts of the hold down member and a spring urged crank 112 connected to the link 116 at one end and at the other end engaging the hold down member to slide it against the pressure of the spring 82 to release the tongue from the abutment 54. The hold down member 84 rests on a guide plate 72 which rests on the base and has an apertured edge complementary in shape to the tongue to receive the tongue. The hold down member has lateral projections which engage projections on side flanges projecting inwardly from upstanding side walls on the base to urge the plate downwardly to press on the tongue. The travel of the hold down member is limited by a U shaped staple having depending legs which pass through holes in the member and engage the rear edge of the guide plate. A retaining pin 30 Fig. 3 (not shown) around which adjustably passes one end portion of a belt, has ends on which slide on the legs of the staple.
