Abstract

659,233. Electric immersion heaters. THERMAL SYNDICATE, Ltd., and IRVING, R. June 8, 1949, No. 15238. [Class 39(iii)] An electric immersion heater comprising an outer closed ended tube a of refractory or vitreous material, or of synthetic plastic, or refractory or vitreous covered material, of high dielectric value contains a solid or tubular former b on which is wound a wire e which may be previously coiled, an earth wire g being provided in the tube a. The coils of the heating element e may be partially embedded in cement h to retain and space them, or they may be wound in grooves in the former b, or the grooves may be dispensed with and the coils separated by winding the earth wire g, suitably insulated, between 'the turns of the heating element e. In other arrangements the insulated wire g raises clear the inside of the former b, or is raised within the coiled heating element e which lies in grooves in the former b, see Fig. 6 (not shown). The element e and wire g may be wound as two-star helices on the former b, and the element e may be star-connected.
