Abstract
534,451. Electric immersion heaters. VERNON, T. W., and STERLING UTILITIES, Ltd. March 1, 1940, No. 3884. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XVII] An electric immersion heater for a hot water bottle comprises a resistance wire 1 wound on a flexible core 2 of insulating material, such as silk. latex, or rubber reinforced with silk. The heating element is bent into U-shape, and the wire secured to terminal blocks 3 carried by an insulating ring 4 to which blocks the ends of the supply wires 5 are also secured. The heater is enclosed in a rubber cover 6 which is extended to enclose the connections 3, cable 5, and plug 7. The flanged stopper 8 is mounted on that part of the cover enclosing the cable 5, and is screwed down against a collar 9 integral with the cover, whereby a watertight seal is formed. To ensure that the heater is in contact with the water, it is provided with a cover of braiding or felt 10, or the rubber may be formed with projections 11. In a modified form of stopper, Fig. 4, a threaded annular groove 14 receives a flanged sleeve 15 which engages the collar 9 of the heating element to secure it. The stopper, with the heating element, is then screwed into the neck of the bottle
