Abstract

171,847. Battisti, P. A. Sept. 24, 1920. Hair-curling appliances.-A hair-curler comprises a metal tube 1, Fig. 1, containing an electric resistance, and provided with an insulating-handle 20 and with a hair-retaining device consisting of a length of wire 12 passing through the handle and having a spring clip 13. The resistance wire 4 is. wound on a core 2 and insulated by layers 3, 7 of heat-resisting material, such as asbestos paper, and its ends are secured to terminals 6, 9 in the handle 20, the flexible leads 10 being passed through a screw cap 11. Alternatively, a socket and plug may be used. Several curlers are preferably wired in series, with a common switch 15, Fig. 3, to a plug 14 for connection to a lighting-circuit ; or they may be in parallel with separate switches. To keep the heater from contact with the head, a split tube when wound on the heater, or heat-insulating washers may be secured to the heater.
