Abstract

650,512. Electric air heaters. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 24, 1948, No. 19847. [Class 39(iii)] An electric heating element comprises a helical or similar winding of resistance material 10 in tape, ribbon or strip form arranged with the major cross-sectional dimension 12 thereof disposed radially to the axis of the winding, an internal former of strip or plate form having opposite edges engaging and supporting the winding. The former is composed of two or more strips 13 of insulating material which, after being inserted within the coil, are relatively displaced and then secured together such that the turns of the winding are engaged and axially located by grooves 15 on opposite edges of the former. The heating elements may be incorporated in air heaters such that the axis of the winding is at right angles to, and the plane of the former is parallel with, the direction of air flow.
