Abstract
658,705. Thermal switches; magnetic switches. RHEOSTATIC CO., Ltd. May 4, 1949, No. 11944. [Class 38 (v) ] In a differentially-expanding, rod-andtube type thermostat embodying the magnetic snap-switch disclosed in Specification 625,492, the rod 3 freely extends through a magnet support plate 6, a resilient movable contact-carrying member 7, and a fixed-contact carrying plate 8, all insulatingly mounted on posts 4, 4<SP>1</SP> on the base 1. The rod rigidly carries a collar 19 and a loose insulating block 16 having points 17, 17<SP>1</SP> which bear on the centre limb of the member 7 and a ridge B, B<SP>1</SP> on which bears a washer 22 positioned beneath the collar 19. The rod is insulated from the member 7 by a tube 23 slidable on the rod and urged against a recess in the underneath of the block 16 by a spring 24. On rise of temperature the tube 2 expands and the member 7 is moved down by the block 16 whereby a contact 14 on the member 7 disengages an adjustable fixed contact 15 with a snap-action produced by the interaction of the twin-armature unit 12, 13 with the magnet 11, this movement being limited by a stop 21. On subsequent decrease of temperature the pull of the magnet 11 on the armature unit 12, 13 recloses the switch. The thermostat is adjusted by rotating a knob 18 attached to the rod 3, the other end of which screws into the tube 2. Specification 632,904 is referred to.
