Abstract

637,496. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd., and SHERLOCK, J. E. May 31, 1948, No. 14673. [Class 38 (v)] In order to prevent damage to the snap-action device of Specification 610,611 due to sparking, the contacts are arranged remote from the device. The outer ends of the radial elements 17 forming the snap device are secured by a ring 19 to a disc 20 connected to an elliptic movable contactcarrier 26 by insulating legs 22, which are fixed by means of wedges 24 in slots 21 in the disc 20 and pass through slots 31A in an insulating stop-plate 31. Slots 25 in the legs engage either side of the contact-carrier 26 which is fixed at one end 27 and carries a movable contact 28 at the other. The operating spindle 7 is screwed into a bushing in the end cap 9 of a bellows 11, the spindle being adjustable in the bushing by a pin 6 engaged by an arm 5 rotated by the knob 3. The pin 6 also secures a collar 14 above the recessed operating sleeve 15 of the snap device. Upward movement of the disc 20 is limited by an annular member 30 adjustably threaded into the casing.
