Abstract
628,098. Actuation of switches. SPEED DEVELOPMENT CO, Ltd., FULLER, R. C., and RUFFLE, W. H. Sept. 26, 1947, No. 26171. [Class 38(v)] In a fluid-pressure operated switch having a diaphragm 6, the movable contact 2 is formed by the head of a stud 2' slidable in an insulating sleeve 19 in the fixed ring contact 1. A spring 16 adjustable by a screw 15 acting on an abutment-lever 12, bears on a brass washer 17 secured to the stud 2<SP>1</SP> and abutting on the flange 19' of sleeve 19. The contact 1 thus acts as a stop for the contact 2 in both directions so that strain on the diaphragm by the fluid and spring pressure is prevented. Contact 1 is connected to a terminal 9 and contact 2 to terminal 10 through pivot 11, lever 12, and spring 16. A carbon annulus may be arranged between contacts 1, 2, so that on opening, the reduction of pressure on the carbon increases the circuit-resistance until the circuit is broken, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown), the contact 2 bridges two half-annulus pieces respectively connected to terminals 9, 10. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 608,669.
